These ideas may seem redundant to other zombie based stories or ideas but, a lot of this I've been accumulating and developing over the past 3 years as I've been more exposed to the genre of Zombie Apocalypse. I hope you enjoy the foundation I designed and hopefully it will inspire you as it has for me.
The World: Year 2015-2016
A shower of meteors have struck earth and while inflicting minor damage to some populated areas, civilization has suffered very little. The governments of the world have been progressively weakened due to multiple suffering economies. The meteors would later be revealed as weapons intended to conquer the planet through a parasitic virus that rapidly kills the host and revives them without cognitive functions turning them into undead zombies.
Rapid take over from the zombies shattered most governments rendering big governments to break down into smaller state sized governments and eventually community sized groups. While most believe the war is over and victory is to The Horde, a coalition of Human's stand up to resist the zombies and fight for human survival.
The Zombies
Zombies are known for having increased strength, endurance, stamina, and speed while sacrificing precision, intelligence, and flexibility.
The virus can be spread via fluid exchange, inhaling contaminated air, or exposure to direct contamination.
Zombies are attracted to sound, the scent of blood, fast movement, scent of meat.
The Factions
The Coalition
The strongest organized group of humans on Earth, they stand for good and the survival of man-kind. They stand separate from smaller human factions known by a stereotyped name "Plague Rats"
The Plague Rats
The outcasts of the Coalition, the name Plague Rat is given to those who don't pledge allegiance to the Coalition. These humans are often thieves and mercenaries hurting each other in order to survive from one day to the next, they have no respect or care for anyone and consider it an insult to be called "Plague Rat."
The Forces of Blight
The organized enemy of the Coalition, the original attackers of Earth lead by a Fearsome Queen that seeks dominion over the Universe. This force uses the Zombie virus to create mindless subjects who can later be evolved into newer species of zombies or given conscience to carry out whatever task is necessary of them. Heroes of the Blight aren't without morals but, see the world as a way of sharing existence and feel forced into combat due to the irrational of humans.
Specialist Zombies are these heroes and can be equally cunning or intelligent as a human, their abilities are augmented to be superior to its host in infinite combinations designed by a command Zombie; a chosen leader by the Queen herself, who then issues commands for the Zombie specialist to follow.

A mindless mass of zombies who attack when agitated, aggravated, or antagonized. These Zombies may attack at random even The Forces of Blight.
