Background Story:
Time in Darkshire
Kurt Dalonshire was once a Nobleman, and citizen of Darkshire. He joined the Night Watch upon his family being murdered by The Death Knight Vale, Dalonshire was warned to leave Darkshire along with the rest of its population before the Dark Rider, known only as Vale, would attack and burn down the town. Kurt and his family refused to cooperate and remained behind with a few other towns folk. Upon Vale's arrival he destroyed two homes and attacked Darkshire Inn, burning down the facility while Kurt was trapped inside with his family, they would attempt escape, but Vale had blocked off the entrance and the windows were barricaded shut. Kurt pleaded for his family's mercy, but they had fallen on deaf ears as Vale cornered his family, eventually chaining Kurt and his family inside the burning building. Vale skinned Kurt's family while he was helpless and only able to watch. This was all Vale needed to break Kurt's courage taint him with a black heart.
Vale's ultimate plan was to break the man and further strengthen the will of the unholy corruption in Duskwood. However as Vale left Kurt to suffer with hatred while the structure burned, Kurt boldly cut off his own arm and mysteriously survived the encounter. Kurt was found by a Night Watch patrol team, whom rescued and later recruited him because of his survivability knowledge.
Encounter in the Swamp of Sorrows
Kurt took upon himself the duty in tracking Vale all through out Azeroth and with each deed slowly found himself becoming more hateful. Vale and Kurt's Night Watch patrol would skirmish three more times before their final encounter.
While Vale was en route to the Blasted Lands, in the swamp of Sorrows Vale was attacking an Orc outpost, when Kurt's patrol attacked the Death knight. The timing couldn't have been more perfect, Vale was weakened by the Orc Warriors that when the Night Watch attacked he could barely sustain himself. Forced into a defensive posture, Vale killed two of the five Night Watch before falling to his knees, among the dead was Kurt Dalonshire. The Night Watch prepared to Slay Vale on the spot, but escorted their prisoner and dead to Netherguard Keep in the Blasted lands. Vale was beaten and tortured to give up the Lich King's bases of operation in the Stormwind Territories, but Vale remained quiet through out the torture.
Nethergarde Keep
Vale's body was low on runic power when he was captured, expecting to be captured during his skirmish Vale planned to kill two of the night watch and in doing so the Night watch did just as he hoped. The Night Watch carried their prisoners and dead to Nethergarde keep where the placed Vale in prison awhile they took their dead to the first aid center. After quick deliberation the authorities of Nethergarde chose to execute him. Upon opening his cell and knocked down and fled from his captors through the halls of the keep. He sensed the corpses of Kurt and the other Night watch, eventually finding them he resurrected the first to immediately siphon its life to restore his own. He then resurrected Kurt as an undead ghoul to protect him, despite Kurt's hatred he was under an unholy command and forced to obey.
Journey in the Outlands.
Vale and Reratev both fled to the Outlands and without help from the Alliance or Horde both were scavengers Vale weakened below 50% of his energy and life, and Reratev had only one arm. The two would cross Hellfire peninsula and into Zangarmarsh Under disguise and with a few adventures along the way, they eventually returned to the plague lands where Vale had taken Reratev's loyalty through service and granted him servant status. Vale would have him reconstructed and armed with Unholy equipment, restored with a new name ultimately leaving his old life behind.
Reratev though he despies Vale for what he did, he recognizes his past is gone and his new life is all he has to look forward to. His will no longer his own he has no other choice.
Parallel Similarities
Lesson Vale and Kurt Dalonshire both died while in pursuit of revenge, and along their pursuit they both grew in hatred towards their adversary. Both were unsuccussful in killing their opponent and eventually pledged loyalty to their former enemy.
